Would like to add further comment regarding last weekends gigs, the RAKKITEERS in the EARLY BATH were their usual brilliant selves even though the turnout wasn't what we expected, those that were there were treated to some superb entertainment. Saturdays gig in the TUT'N SHIVE was astronomical and to cap it off the ERICS on Sunday in DUGGANS DUGOUT showed what true stars they are. When they'd finished I trotted over the road to the INFAMOUS LION and took in the second set of the STEVE FULSHAM BAND, I commented on this band a couple of years (3??) back when I saw the whole gig they did in the CRIMEA, i was massively impressed then and was not disappointed this time either! This 3 piece took me back many years with their blues offerings and the vocals/musicianship were exemplary. Steve managed to bust 2 strings on both lead guitars before utilising the one he set up for slide to finish off the last 1/2 dozen songs. The LED ZEP was superb and this is a band that you should see (again?) Steve. They really are excellent! A quick word to LIAM, RotN is NOT just for covers bands (I don't think so anyway) and I agree entirely GKB are an awesome band!

I'll go back to front, and RotN is for any band who wants to be part of us, and I always considered GKB to be just that.Steve Fulsham band, I may well have seen them on my rounds when I wrote for Blues Matters, probably in Sheffield. They're highly rated in those parts and I'm pleased they've been recognised as such in Cas.The Erics , well they go from strength to strength and they were superb at The Tut and Shive, always good curtain closers at multi band gigs, for one reason they can follow anyone, and the other is the entertainment value.Businessmen might call the commodity "value added". The Rakkiteers are a great band too with a wide ranging repertoire with something for everyone, especially me with The Who and a bit of Elvis as well! Music is great in the pubs dont you think, I love it.

Just after some advice on which front men or women are the ones to go see to pick up tips from. Me and the rest of the band are pretty new to performing live. In fact Saturdays gig at The Lion was only our 10th gig! Just after some tips as although I have banter with the crowd inbetween songs, sometimes I run out of things to say and end up talking rubbish!
It will come more with experience I'm sure but I thought if I saw some masters at work it might help me along a little!
Cheers in advance, rob

Hmmm, let me think, The Erics are a must,Optic Nerve's Steve Wilson, and in the clubs Jonny Kanvas of Here's Jonny is brilliant, and locally go see One Fat Spider and pee yourself laughing at Paul. One tip is run one song into another, and do three songs non-stop at the beginning of the set before saying anything.

Hi steve can you put a gig on the guide for us please.
The Lounge Bar, Bfd Rd, Batley. Sunday 14th march start at around 7pm ish.
This venue has just had a load of money spent on the refurb and the land lord is hoping to have live music on every sunday.
Were the first band on so hopefully if all goes well and we can get a few punters in it might possibly pave the way for others to follow, so if anyone is at loose ends after dropping their mams cards off call in and see us, everyone more than welcome.
cheers.

I agree with Aarren, You should have your mug on the Hall of Fame Steve, In fact you ought to have your picture on the welcome page of Rotn with a caption saying that your the editor/man who runs it. There would not be a Rock of the North website if it were not for your efforts and the music scene in the region would not be what it is without you & RotN.
BTW This is not a request its a demand from the Don so get it sorted pronto. Futhermore can I wish that boy of yours a very happy 23rd birthday.
I wish I were 23 again !!

I dont want to put people off their lunch Bri...and I can remember being 23 but I didn't have what Joe has...I spent it all on beer and motorbikes! Joe's used his money wisely and with a little bit of help he's built up a lot of gear for such a young man.Cheers Bri, I know Joe will appreciate your greetings...he's like a young version of you, cant stop buying gear!

hi steve could you please add friday 12th march WELSH T band and saturday 13th march TIME MACHINE to the gig list, cheers steve

Will do Steve! This should be another good weekend of music. I can remember doing a review of the Welsh T Band for Blues Matters Magazine about 7 years ago! Great band. Same with Time Machine, more unusual covers including Hush and I think Highway Star. The Hendrix stuff is always good as well.

Hi Steve, that picture you sent we can't get it onto tv as it's not our system and can't get into it to add our own photos. We will just have to put lot's around the pub. Looks good though. We had a brilliant night sat with the vibe if you have'nt seen these guys they are worth going to see. Sun we had Soul Circus on, these are a promising yound original's band and are due back at the end of may. Onto this week-end Top Gun grace the keys stage on Friday can't wait to hear them full blast as when Keith took us to see them a few weeks ago they were being sound monitered (is'nt that such a pain in the neck). Saturday sees the return of Motus another great band. So anyone this side of Leeds at a loose end Fri/Sat the keys is the place to be.
Thanks Lynn

Just wanted to make a very worth while nomination for the RotN Hall of Fame... This man has been endlessly putting in hard work, sweat and tears for the likes of us gigging musicians and local venues alike and in my opinion DESERVES his place in the Hall of Fame - even in my eyes a page all of his own. Ladies & gents please get behind me on this one... My nomination for the Hall of Fame is no other than (drum roll please..........) Mr Steve Lally!!!

Have I suddenly won a popularity competition? Thanks Aarren though, the support is really appreciated but I dont want people to be put off the site by my boat race on a page!

A big thanks to Kimbo for her comment regarding Last Seen Wearing at grimey club. I know that strictly speaking RotN is for covers bands but I wanted make mention of the formidable GIRL KILLS BOY. I saw them at the Slide Festival at Leeds Rios on sunday night and they were nothing short of immense. Awesome songs and stage prescence to die for GkB have in my opinion once again reestablished the benchmark that all original bands have to aim for. If they don't get signed there quite literally is no justice in the world. SMASH!

Rock Of The North

We've always supported GKB, and in fact there was even a bit of RotN on stage with them on Sunday so Jonno could maximise his stage presence. Not sure if the band have a manager or not,but they could do with one if they haven't. They need PR to smooth the path to a higher plane, and discipline from the lads to go forward.I'd like to see it happen for them though.

Hi Steve, can ya remove HCB from the gig guide for the 13th march the Gardeners Arms, due to unforseen circumstances we are unable to do the gig, sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused Rossi, and thanks to him for being understanding on this matter.

hi all,not 100% on this one but ive been hearing that the primrose is shutting,an ace music venue where almost every night of the week bands play,a pub with a great atmosphere so what has happened i dont know, the stage always had a pa set up,bass amp, guitar amps even a house drum kit,all set up for a quick change over and for those student types with not much kit but a fire in there belly.you can probably tell im a bit gutted, the loss of somewhere to go with a song in your head and a guitar in your hand is not a good thing....cheers...crush

I'd heard this rumour Crusher and it will be a shame if it does shut. They've never had owt to do with us but I was aware of it's importance in the Leeds music scene. It's a proper shame is that.

Hi Steve, was just reading your latest post on the news page! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you yet but it seems like you have a bloody hard time of it which makes it all the more amazing that you have the time and the patience to do all the ROTN stuff like websites and gig organising etc!
I have a full time job and I'm in one band and the amount of time it takes me to update the various websites, myspace, facebook as well as holding down a full job I can barely manage it!
Just tipping my hat to you Steve as you do what you do for so many reasons and I believe you should be in the next new years honours list. Hmmm, I wonder if we could start a petition!!! See if we become as succesful as the RATM facebook campaign! All those in favour of Sir Steve say Aye!!!

Well I do like Her Majesty and I would like to meet her one day!!! haha. I must say that I find it hard to cope lately, but I like helping the bands and venues, and I get really chuffed after a good RotN gig for charity. So there is a lot of reward there, and I still love the live music. RotN's had a new lease of life recently with many more bands joining the community. It's great and gives me a sense of purpose. The RotN to the Core campaign is starting to take off!

stuck my head round the door at the tut on sat night, nice to see it busy and with beer on, as i was down for abit the sat before to see night patrol and unfortuanly didnt have much on sale and was abit thin on customers. heard some good bands and i hear they raised loads for the charity so well don guys, mite try and pop down again at the weekend but going to another charity gig week after in shipley so ill see how my funds are. but well done again guys, good night for a good charity

Yes I think it was a hell of a good night and well done to everyone including yourself for supporting. This bit about beer on. The Tut has got too many pumps with specialist lagers. A pub only needs 1 bitter, 1 lager, and one stout. I can tell you that early in the night about 44 gallons of lager had already been sold.Muzzi did well to keep the supply going to a packed pub, cos he had no idea how much he'd need.
